Get ready Hudson County, recreational marijuana will finally be legally available for purchase Wednesday.
Harmony Dispensary in Secaucus, which began as a medical cannabis store years ago, will launch recreational sales March 1 at 10 a.m., a spokesman for the company told The Jersey Journal, making it the first store in Hudson County to do so.
The establishment, located at 600 Meadowlands Parkway in the industrial south side of the town, received state approval last December for recreational sales, months after recreational cannabis businesses had opened across the state following the legalization of marijuana.
Township Administrator Gary Jeffas said last week that the town doesn’t expect the launch of recreational sales to be different than medical sales, and that police will monitor the new business as it does the medical marijuana operations.
The launch of sales at Harmony comes as other cannabis businesses in other Hudson County communities like Jersey City and Hoboken struggle against neighborhood pushback and bureaucratic hurdles to gain final approvals — even as the first anniversary of sales in New Jersey nears.
Secaucus residents voted in a roughly 2-to-1 margin in the 2020 statewide referendum to legalize marijuana, with 5,420 people voting yes and 2,791 voting no.
