CB1 To Meet Re:
A meeting of CB1’s Executive Board is scheduled for Monday, April 3 to discuss two Office of Cannabis Management (OCM) newly licensed premises; Blaze Astoria on Steinway Street, zip code 11103 and Urban Weeds on Ditmars Boulevard, zip code 11105.
They would be the first to sell adult self-use and medical marijuana as well as cannabinoid hemp products in Community Board 1 with Conditional Adult-Use Retail Dispensary (CAURD) licenses.
Issued by OCM, CAURD is the first retail license for legal adult-use cannabis sales in New York State and reserved for non-profits and businesses owned by New Yorkers with marijuana convictions and their close relatives.
OCM recently announced that the number of CAURD licenses issued in the state would double from 150 to 300. As of March 2, OCM has received about 900 applications for CAURD licenses but has not set a timeline for opening the general application licensing process to include other applicants, including corporations and individuals not meeting CAURD requirements. Final decisions on proposed license regulations are pending as well.
Governor Kathy Hochul has proposed legislation giving state authorities the power to fine unlicensed cannabis shops $10,000 a day and the right to close them for selling cannabis without a license.
“We need additional enforcement tools to protect New Yorkers from dangerous products and support our equity initiatives,” she said in a statement.
The Executive Board will meet via Zoom at 6:30 PM with Chair Marie Torniali, First Vice Chair Amy Hau, Second Vice Chair Evie Hantzopoulos, Third Vice Chair Richard Khouzami, Executive Secretary Daniel Aliberti and Sergeant-at- Arms Thomas Ryan in attendance remotely. You are invited to join the meeting online or via telephone. www.nyc.gov/assets/queenscb1/downloads/pdf/committee-meeting-agendas/2023/2023_Zoom_Executive_Board_4_3.pdf
