With an increasing number of people looking for alternatives to traditional pain relief, CBD has soared in popularity since it became legal in 2017.

The ingredient, once seen as controversial due to its association with cannabis, can now be found in most health shops and is gaining respect amongst the medical community.

Last year a report by the World Health Organization found CBD may help treat symptoms relating to Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease, MS, anxietydepressioncancer, diabetic complications and pain.

To tackle pain, CBD can be taken orally as an oil, but if there are certain areas of your body you want to focus on – such as aching knee joints – a topical CBD balm might be the best solution.

One version that’s been a particular hit with shoppers, it seems, is Kloris’s High Strength CBD Balm.

Writing on Kloris’s website, one delighted user posted: ‘Absolutely incredible. Have been suffering knee and back pain for a while and this is truly remarkable. It helps me sleep too!’

Many reviewers were especially impressed with the speed the balm works: One woman wrote: ‘Seriously, the balm made an improvement within an hour.’

While another customer added: ‘It gave me back my life. I use it morning and night. Sometimes during the day. Give it a few minutes and no more pain.’

The balm, named ‘Best CBD Balm’ in the 2022 Beauty Shortlist Wellbeing Awards, contains 1.33% of high strength CBD as well as shea, cacao and mango seed butters and coconut oil.

It’s colourant and fragrance free so great for sensitive skin.

Kloris says its customers commonly use the product to tackle muscle soreness, skin conditions, inflamed joints and localised discomfort.

It can be used on its own or in combination with CBD oil and patches, also available through Kloris.

Although derived from the same plant as marijuana, don’t worry, CBD is not going to get you high as it doesn’t contain the mind-altering substance THC.

So how can CBD actually help reduce pain?

Well, our body has a system of cannabinoid receptors, known as the endocannabinoid system, which plays a role in pain sensation, among other functions. CBD interacts with these receptors and can help reduce inflammation and pain.

If that’s not enough science for you, Kloris goes into more depth here.

Kloris’s High Strength CBD Balm costs £35 but you can currently get 20% off the full price with the code BALM20.
