Permit OK’d for large medical marijuana grow operation in Jackson

JACKSON, MI – A new medical marijuana grow operation may be coming to Jackson soon.

The Jackson City Council approved a conditional use permit Tuesday, May 23, for Healthy Hi Inc. to construct a marijuana grow operation at 619 E. Washington Ave., east of downtown Jackson.

Only Ward 2 Councilman Freddie Dancy voted against approving the permit.

There is no timeline for when the operation will be functioning as planning for it is still in its initial stages.

The permit is for a Class C grower facility that will allow the business to begin construction, but be unable to grow any plants at the site until it is granted additional permits from the state.

According to state law, a Class C facility is allowed to grow up to 1,500 plants.

The Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs Marijuana Regulatory Agency granted the company prequalification status in December 2021, allowing it to pursue permits from municipalities.

The company will be subject to additional inspection and licensing from the state before it can open.
